As the engine is out of the frame because of the cylinder breakdown, it is possible check crankshaft and bearings as well. There are no supplier (yet!) who do crankpins and bearing for the early Excelsiors so its best to do the job the old proven way oneself.
Not knowing the cone part it necessary to find the degrees by moving the tailstock of the lathe over until the meter reads "paralell".
An old lathe like the Myford has no problem with this
Then a new pin prepared with threads and dimensions in beforehand, can be put in to get the conical sections made.
And the keyway is so special, one has to make the cutter for it too:
And since rollers of the correct length also are difficult to find, it is even necessary to make them.

It is a pity that the only parts which keeps this original American icon from running again, are the final repairs of the cracked cylinder. The cylinder was welded OK. Even better was that an equally aged cylinder appeared on Ebay.
